SoCal has been very windy today. This in and of itself is of no real consequence--unless, like my friend CC, you had your fence knocked down. It was actually something in chapel today that started me thinking about it. Someone mentioned how great it was that the air was scrubbed clean. Then I heard about CC's fence, and remembered something else the speaker said in chapel. Sometimes God's grace is gentle and winsome--you know the kindness that draws us to repentance. Other times God's grace is like the guy chasing the ball carrier to the endzone--it tackles you and slams your face into the muddy grass. Kinda like the wind. The wind cleans the air, it cools or warms, it makes the trees dance... but the wind also knocks down fences and power lines, and rips roofs right off of houses.
Makes me wonder what Jesus meant when he said that those who are born of the Spirit ('wind in both Hebrew and Greek) are like the wind. Also gives reason to ponder on what the Spirit is like.
